Here I am, back at my computer and writing my blog again. Yes, I know it has been several months. The fact is that just like Oprah Winfrey I ‘fell off the wagon’ - big time. Life hit me in the face yet again and I forgot all about the special relationship with myself. How could I do that after all I had written about and succeeded at?

Well the fact is that I did and no amount of ruminating over it is going to change the fact. No amount of guilt and shame is going to change a thing. So my clothes have somehow shrunk and are nearly strangling me round the waist. The reality is I have put on some weight but the strange thing is that everyone I tell this too genuinely responds with “Have you? I hadn’t noticed”. All this angst and no one even noticed only me!

What I have learnt from this unsettled period in my life is that as much as I want to be, I am not perfect. There are times in our lives when what we eat or drink pails into insignificance. The problem I found is that it too easily became my excuse. My daily yoga and meditation routine began to slip and all too soon it was ‘out the window’ and along with it went my healthy eating. I had detached from myself. Ignoring my inner voice until it was unperceivable, all too easily I again buried my emotions with food.

Eventually the wake up call came in the guise of my painful joints and this time I was listening. So the months of not listening to myself are over and I feel a great deal of satisfaction being back at my computer again and connecting with people all over the world.

Life is too short for regrets and for continuing down a pathway of behaviour that only brings us pain and unhappiness. We owe it to ourselves to be happy and make the most of every new day that dawns for us. So make today a special one. Listen to what your body needs, eat the foods that make you feel good, focus on the moment, without the negative thoughts of past remembrances or the fears of things to come. Go for that walk and notice the beauty in each and everything you see, take pleasure in the increased activity that energises your body and more importantly burns off those calories!
